Samburu Wilderness Safari

4 days From $1100 / person

Samburu National Reserve sits north of the equator in a drier, more rugged landscape than the Mara, and holds species found nowhere else in Kenya's southern parks: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, and the long-necked gerenuk among them. It's noticeably quieter than the more-visited southern circuit.

This four-day safari balances game drives with time along the Ewaso Ng'iro River, where most of the reserve's wildlife concentrates.

  1. Day 1: Fly or drive from Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve. Afternoon game drive along the river.
  2. Day 2: Full day in Samburu, tracking the reserve's northern specialist species.
  3. Day 3: Morning game drive, afternoon visit to a local Samburu community, by arrangement.
  4. Day 4: Final game drive, then transfer back to Nairobi.
